Accounting Manager (Full-time or Part-time), New Jersey

Accounting Manager (New Jersey): Our client, a growing and diverse venture capital firm is seeking an accounting professional to join their team in their NY office. Specifically, this hire will focus on the firm’s financial reporting and oversee all accounting related items, ensuring best practices up to regulatory standards.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and administer the accounting of the management company's books and records (payables, receivables, and expense reports) coordinating with the Fund Administrator team; monitor the development against the firm's operating budget 
  • Spearhead and improve the firm’s financial reporting packages to a renowned venture capital standard and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); manage internal controls, confirming they are operating effectively, and appropriate policies and procedures are implemented around the financial reporting processes 
  • Liaise with various teams on valuations, capital calls and distributions, and review of fund financial statements; manage outsourced Fund Administrator including a fund accounting team and a Management Company accounting team 
  • Gather appropriate information and prepare operational due diligence processes in conjunction with fundraises; coordinate annual audit activities with external auditors and ensure compliance with tax requirements 
  • Manage the accounting of the management company's books and records (payables, receivables, expense reporting, GL entries and Tax reporting) using knowledge of various accounting software; coordinate with the CFO to establish a 401K plan and provide support with the management company budget
  • Liaise with insurance providers regarding annual renewals; spearhead process improvements to increase team efficiency 
  • Oversee and confirm management and incentive fees, waterfall, and expense allocations; work with operations and finance teams on special requests and ad hoc projects

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience within a similar function, ideally from a public accounting firm (Big 4) or a reputable asset manager (private equity, venture capital); Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with an active CPA license is required
  • Expertise in financial market activities, accounting, audit, tax, statutory regulations affecting venture capital and/or private equity funds; demonstrated leadership with the ability to manage third party vendors and consultants remotely 
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel with strong working knowledge of industry general ledger software (Investran); ability to read and comprehend legal documents (Limited Partner Agreements and Purchase agreements
  • Superior communication skills (written, oral, and graphic) and strong research capabilities; must be able to understand and improve business processes and datato work efficiently across the firm’s systems as part of its ongoing digital transformation project
