Management Company Controller, New York, NY

Management Company Controller (New York, NY): Our client, an established hedge fund with over $25 billion of AUM, is seeking a Management Company Controller to join their team in a newly rejiggered capacity. The position has been ‘upgraded’ due to the firms’ growth and success.   This new hire will play an integral role in the firm’s continued growth and establishment of “best in class” practices.   This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the most reputable funds and help implement new policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting related matters and all financial matters including, maintaining controls over financial reporting and monitoring the impact of transaction structures on the funds financial statements; 
  • Provide guidance on transactions and document accounting decisions as needed; oversee the fund accounting technology infrastructure staying abreast with new developments while partnering with technology and the middle office to implement and improve reporting capabilities
  • Supervise the fund valuation team, overseeing monthly and quarterly valuation processes, framework and drivers of value change; oversee and foster relationships with internal controls team, reviewing and testing controls
  • Partner with key stakeholders, maintaining governance over the firm’s international platform; manage all fund audit related duties
  • Provide guidance to the fund team with proper training, establishing relationships and understanding the team’s needs and career plans; coordinate with various teams throughout the firm, establishing a solid foundation of value beyond finance for the firm as a whole

Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of relevant finance experience in both public and private accounting within the financial services field AND at least 10 years in a senior accounting capacity within the alternative asset management space; bachelors degree in accounting and MBA is preferred, CPA is required
  • Person must have current management company accounting experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to generate creative solutions; comfortable working in a collaborative team environment
  • This person should have a high level of integrity and professionalism; proven track record of establishing and implementing a strategic vision with strong partnerships throughout previous firm
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft GP; advanced Excel skills
  • Must be comfortable communication with various levels of management and efficiently working on time sensitive projects 
  • Senior management loves visuals so someone that can manipulate data and create charts and graphs in Excel would be very well received
